A rapid light rail system to the island
The new transit system will allow the population to disperse over the island rather than being concentrated in the Port of Spain region. The government fo the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is investing in a multi-billion dollar project to bring a rapid light rail system to the island, planned to extend approximately 100 km in length and linking the capital, Port of Spain, to both the east and western edges of the island. The project will take 5 years to complete.
WSP's part in the project
WSP has been appointed to provide national infrastructure agency NIDCO with technical services during the construction of the Trinidad rapid railway. WSP will be providing management consultancy services for the project, providing technical advice for a Design, Build, Operate and Maintain (DBOM) contract awarded to the French consortium of Bouygues, Alstrom and Ratp.
WSP International Sweden prepared the winning proposal almost two years ago with support from WSP Rail. The 10-strong, long term team is now a truly international one with members from the UK, from Sweden and from Greece.
